SBOM Pioneer Allan Friedman Joins NetRise to Advance Supply Chain Visibility
Dr. Allan Friedman, the SBOM pioneer often described as the Father of SBOMs, is joining NetRise as a strategic adviser, after leaving CISA where he served as a senior advisor and strategist. NetRise announced the appointment on 21 October 2025, noting that Friedman’s move comes despite CISA’s furlough situation during the government shutdown in October 2025.
The security firm has highlighted SBOMs as essential for improving visibility into software supply chains, and Friedman’s joining is positioned to boost that effort. NetRise raised about $10 million in a Series A funding round in April 2025, bringing the total amount raised by the company to nearly $25 million. “AI can help with supply chain visibility, but it cannot solve the whole problem,” said Thomas Pace, co-founder and CEO of NetRise.
If you’re filtering the dialogue, Pace added that SBOM data remains necessary to contextualise AI capabilities, which explains why Friedman’s appointment aligns with NetRise’s strategy. According to NetRise founder and CEO Thomas Pace.
