Google Assembles Foxconn/Samsung Supply Chain for Q4 2026 AI Glasses Launch
Google is developing a new AI glasses initiative, assembling a supply chain with Foxconn for hardware manufacturing, Samsung for design, and Qualcomm for the chipset. This project is separate from the previously showcased Project Aura smart glasses and is currently in proof-of-concept and small-batch production stages, aiming for a launch in Q4 2026. The glasses will feature a waveguide optical system and an integrated camera for advanced visual-AI capabilities.
Michael Klug, a former member of Magic Leap, is rumored to lead the project. Google is also collaborating with Samsung and Qualcomm on the Android XR operating system, integrating it with the Google Play Store. Despite trailing behind Meta's Ray-Ban in the consumer market, Google's strategic return to AI eyewear is supported by a mature ecosystem and advanced AI capabilities. Other companies like Meta, Alibaba, and Xiaomi are also entering the smart-glasses market, indicating a growing trend in wearable AI technology.
