THE hospitality sector remains a lucrative target for hackers, with three recent incidents highlighted this week. In the United States, Choice Hotels International disclosed that a “skilled person used social engineering” to gain access on 14 January 2026 to an application containing records about franchisees and franchise applicants, despite MFA having been in place; the breached information included names and Social Security numbers, and there is no indication that guest data was involved.

Wynn Resorts in Nevada has not yet issued a response to claims by ShinyHunters that 800,000 records were obtained, and there is no posted proof of those claims; Wynn has not released a public statement nor filed any material incident with the SEC, and the report suggests the incident, if confirmed, would involve employee data rather than guest data.

In Taiwan, the Grand Hotel in Taipei disclosed a possible data breach that could affect its guest, with an updated statement noting unauthorized access had been detected and no ruling yet on whether customer data could be affected, and no gang has claimed responsibility.
