Massive cyberattack on Polish power system in December failed, minister says

According to Reuters, Poland’s power system faced its largest cyberattack in years in the last week of December, with the attack aiming to disrupt the communication between renewable installations and the power distribution operators, Milosz Motyka told reporters. The minister described the incident as the strongest attack on the energy infrastructure in years and noted that the event followed a different pattern from past assaults.

The article adds that Poland’s critical infrastructure has been subject to a growing number of cyberattacks by Russia since the war in Ukraine began in February 2022. Motyka’s remarks came as part of the country’s assessment of the December incident, which he characterised as a significant test to the resilience of the energy sector. The report, published on 13 January 2026, underscores continued concerns over cyber threats to Poland’s energy infrastructure.
