Reels Stolen? Meta Launches Content Protection to Track & Block Reposts on Facebook/Instagram

Meta has announced a new measure to combat video theft on Facebook and Instagram: a tool called Content Protection. The feature automatically detects when a creator’s original Reel, in full or in part, is reposted on either platform, with a dedicated dashboard for reviewing unauthorized reposts and deciding how to respond.

According to Meta, when the system identifies a stolen Reel, creators can choose among three options: Track, which adds a label linking back to the original source while continuing to monitor the repost’s view count; Block, which prevents others from viewing the repost but does not impose extra penalties on the account that reposted the content; and Release, which removes the video from the dashboard.

The dashboard will also display information such as whether the reposted video is monetised, helping creators decide whether to Track or Block. Meta notes that Content Protection was previously available only to select Facebook creators via Rights Manager, but is now integrated into the Facebook app, with a limited rollout to monetisation programme creators and existing Rights Manager users, and others able to request access via the app page. according to Meta
