Warning to Mac Studio M3 Ultra Owners: Postpone Your macOS Upgrade
Mac Studio M3 Ultra users are advised to postpone upgrading to macOS 26.0 Tahoe after reports of installation errors that cause the upgrade to fail. The issue appears to occur in the final stage, where the Mac reboots and reverts to version 15.7, with the root cause linked to a flaw in Apple’s Neural Engine driver. During installation, the setup attempts to load the new Tahoe kernel driver for the Neural Engine, and a hardware check fails, triggering the rollback.
Apple has begun contacting affected users to collect kernel crash logs in order to investigate the underlying cause. Analysis and a fix may take some time, so M3 Ultra Mac Studio owners are advised to wait for an updated version before attempting the upgrade.
