Googlebook AI laptops debut October 5 with Android-based ChromeOS makeover

Google has announced an “Opening Night” event for 5 October in New York City, where it plans to provide the first full public showcase of its new Googlebook artificial intelligence laptop. The announcement follows confirmation that pre-orders will open on 21 September through the Googlebook website. Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo are named as hardware partners for the initial range, which will share a distinctive “Glowbar” light strip on the upper lid.

According to the article, the laptops will run a redesigned version of ChromeOS based on Android, with closer integration with Android smartphones and support for custom widgets derived from Android 17. The devices will also feature a “Magic Pointer” assistant: moving the cursor can activate it, after which hovering over on-screen content is intended to trigger contextual actions. The report does not provide confirmed pricing, detailed specifications or shipping dates.

It says Google may need to publish those details when pre-orders begin, since the launch event is scheduled after pre-orders open, and suggests deliveries could start within weeks of the October presentation.
