“No place in our networks”: FCC hangs up on thousands of voice operators in robocall war
On 28 August 2025, Malwarebytes reports that the FCC removed over 1,200 voice service providers from its Robocall Mitigation Database, effectively cutting their traffic from the US phone network. The database, created in 2020, records operators’ measures to stop robocalls routing through their networks. The move follows a December announcement that up to 2,411 providers could be removed if they could not justify up-to-date filings.
On 6 August, the FCC began delivering on that promise by removing 185 providers identified as robocall originators or gateways or for failing to cooperate with traceback procedures. According to Commission Chair Brendan Carr, robocalls are an all-too-common frustration and threat to Americans’ households, and providers that fail to stop these calls have no place in our networks.
