Ransomware Group Claims Attack on Beer Giant Asahi
According to SecurityWeek, the Qilin ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack that disrupted Asahi’s operations in Japan. The hackers say they stole 27 gigabytes of data, including contracts, employee information, and financial documents, from the beer giant. Asahi confirmed on 6 October that ransomware was used and that it was scrambling to restore affected systems, with downtime duration not yet estimated.
The group later added Asahi to its leak site, claiming they had exfiltrated over 9,000 files and published screenshots as proof. The compromised information is said to include forecasts and other business data, and analysts have noted that this attack marks the 19th confirmed incident against a food and beverage manufacturer this year. SecurityWeek has approached the company for comment, but Asahi had declined to respond to the hackers’ claims when asked last week.
