AI Clutter Solved? Windows 11 Adds Setting to Disable AI Actions in File Explorer Menu

Microsoft has responded to user feedback about AI clutter in Windows 11’s File Explorer by adding a setting to disable AI actions, introduced with Windows 11 Build 26220.7344 (DEV & BETA). December 9, 2025 reports that, according to Microsoft, if no AI actions are available—or if users choose not to enable them—these menu entries can be hidden during interaction, and users can manually deselect related features in Settings → Apps → Actions, including those tied to Paint, Photos, and Microsoft Teams.

However, the bottom entries remain visible and cannot be concealed for now, leaving the context menu still longer than some users would like. The change is not expected to be in the stable release immediately, with broader availability anticipated to take additional time. This development follows prior feedback that the AI-driven options bloat the context menu, and it marks a step towards a leaner experience, even if some clutter persists.
