Apple Watch Series 11 Unveils FDA-Approved Hypertension Alerts

Apple has unveiled the Series 11 with algorithm-driven Hypertension Alerts, a feature that has already gained approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Beginning 19 September 2025, the alert will be activated globally across 150 countries and regions, aligning with the launch of the Apple Watch Series 11 and the Apple Watch Ultra 3.

The system uses the built‑in optical heart rate sensor and a newly developed machine‑learning algorithm that runs in the background for about a month to flag abnormal heart‑rate patterns that may indicate hypertension, prompting users to seek medical advice before complications arise.

Apple emphasises that the feature does not provide real‑time blood pressure readings, but offers early warnings to enable proactive action, with the model trained on clinical data from over 100,000 participants to meet FDA accuracy standards. The rollout adds to a growing suite of health tools on the watch, as Apple continues to pursue preventive healthcare while navigating related patent disputes and speculative future monitoring capabilities.
