Pro-Russian Hackers Claim Cyberattack on French Postal Service
A pro-Russian hacking group claimed responsibility for a major cyberattack that knocked central computer systems at France’s national postal service La Poste offline in a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, with the disruption not fully resolved by Wednesday morning. The group, known as Noname057, made the claim, and DGSI subsequently took over the investigation, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.
La Poste said package deliveries were halted and online payments at its banking arm were disrupted as a result, impacting what is normally the busiest season for the company, which delivered 2.6 billion packages last year and employs more than 200,000 people. France and other European allies of Ukraine allege that Russia is waging a campaign of “hybrid warfare” to sow division in Western societies, an assertion tracked by the Associated Press across more than 145 incidents.
According to Associated Press, the incident occurred just days before Christmas, with the attack described in SecurityWeek’s coverage dated 24 December 2025.
