The Egress Explosion: Google Cloud to Double Interconnect Prices in May 2026

Google Cloud Platform has announced a significant recalibration of its interconnect and CDN pricing, with changes taking effect on 1 May 2026. The revised tariff primarily affects partnerships and network operators, with certain regional charges expected to effectively double. In North America, interconnect pricing rises from 0.04 to 0.08 per GB (a 100% increase); Europe moves from 0.05 to 0.08 per GB (a 60% rise); and Asia climbs from 0.06 to 0.085 per GB (a 41.7% increase).

Google says the adjustment aims to align pricing with the value and performance of its services after substantial infrastructure investments to boost throughput and reduce latency. The changes could impose a fiscal burden on CDN providers such as Cloudflare, Fastly and Akamai, potentially translating into higher costs for downstream clients, though no reciprocal price hikes have been signalled yet.
