Microsoft ranked number one in modern endpoint security market share third year in a row
Microsoft has been ranked number one in modern endpoint security market share for a third consecutive year, according to IDC. The IDC note accompanies the Worldwide Modern Endpoint Security Market Shares, 2024 report, with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint cited as a leading solution as ransomware campaigns surge globally. The firm reports the market share rising from 25.8% in 2023 to 28.6% in 2024, reflecting a 28.2% growth rate.
The piece highlights that organisations are increasingly choosing Defender for Endpoint as part of a defence-in-depth approach powered by AI, spanning devices from Windows to Linux, macOS, iOS, Android and IoT. It also stresses Microsoft’s cross‑platform innovation, including enhanced Linux security using eBPF sensor technology to deliver visibility with minimal kernel disruption and CPU impact.
The post emphasises that Defender’s next-generation protection and exposure management help security teams manage risk and disrupt cyberattacks across the entire environment.
