ACCORDING to Johannes Ullrich, the DShield honeypot will receive a couple of major updates this week, with automatic updates proceeding if that option is enabled. The changes include improved compatibility with Ubuntu 26.04 and newer Raspberry Pi OS versions, while 24.04 will continue to be supported and older releases such as 22.04 and 20.04 will no longer be supported.

When upgrading to a new major OS version, users are recommended to reinstall the honeypot from scratch, keeping the dshield[.]ini file if convenient to ease the rein install. The upcoming update will also address issues with the newer Raspberry Pi OS versions and aim to maintain compatibility with the 32- and 64-bit builds of “trixie” and “bookworm”, though testing requires physical devices.

In addition, Cowrie log data may require an updated API key, since older keys are not compatible with the current version of Cowrie. The post was published on 4 May 2026, and last updated that day at 14:23:33 UTC.
