A new era of agents, a new era of posture

The Microsoft Security Blog explains that the rise of AI agents marks a major shift, with agents not just passive components but capable of reasoning, deciding, and interacting across systems on users’ behalf. This autonomy creates powerful opportunities but also new security risks, particularly as AI agents can be created by teams that may not fully understand the implications.

A strong AI agents posture, the piece argues, starts with comprehensive visibility across all AI assets and extends to understanding what each agent can do, what it is connected to, and how to harden and prioritise mitigations before incidents occur. Defender for Cloud’s AI Security Posture Management and a new set of dedicated risk factors are highlighted as ways to reduce attack surface across multi-cloud environments, including Microsoft Foundry, AWS Bedrock, and GCP Vertex AI.
