The AI Super App Arrives: OpenAI Launches ChatGPT App Directory to Rule Your Digital Life
OpenAI has announced the launch of a new App Directory within the ChatGPT platform, enabling users to directly connect ChatGPT with external services such as Spotify, Dropbox, and Apple Music, in a move described as letting people “chat while getting things done.” According to OpenAI’s official statement, the directory is organised into three main categories—Features, Lifestyle, and Productivity—and is currently available across iOS, Android, and the web version of ChatGPT.
Previously, using ChatGPT often required manually copying and pasting information; with Apps—formerly known as Connectors—the AI can read from or interact with external services, with users simply clicking Connect, granting permission, and invoking these services within a conversation.
The update highlights include Dropbox or Google Drive integrations for reading reports, generating summaries, or turning outlines into presentations, as well as Apple Music for music recommendations, and DoorDash for turning recipes into shopping lists or placing orders. OpenAI also plans to encourage third‑party developers with SDKs, UI libraries, and quick‑start guides, while exploring a potential internal revenue‑sharing model to scale the ecosystem.
