Gcore Mitigates Record-Breaking 6 Tbps DDoS Attack
Gcore has mitigated one of the largest DDoS attacks recorded to date, reaching a peak bandwidth of 6 Tbps and a packet rate of 5.3 Bpps, according to CyberNewsWire. The assault targeted a hosting provider in the gaming sector and was described as a short-burst volumetric flood, lasting 30–45 seconds, with 51% of sources coming from Brazil and 23.7% from the US, together accounting for nearly three-quarters of all traffic.
The incident aligns with AISURU botnet activity, a pattern linked to several high-impact incidents in recent months. Andrey Slastenov, Head of Security at Gcore, said the event underscores an ongoing escalation in the scale and sophistication of DDoS attacks, and stressed that adaptive protection, edge-layer filtering, and Layer 7 behavioural analysis are now mission-critical.
Gcore’s defence absorbed the attack without service interruption, leveraging a globally distributed infrastructure across 210+ Points of Presence and a filtering capacity exceeding 200 Tbps. The incident highlights the need for integrated, AI-driven DDoS strategies capable of real-time response and deep traffic inspection.
