THE St. George Fire Protection District No. 2 has filed a lawsuit against its former IT security provider, General Informatics LLC, claiming that negligence in cybersecurity led to a significant cyberattack that compromised their network. The lawsuit, initiated in March 2024, accuses General Informatics of breaching its contract and fiduciary responsibilities by failing to ensure necessary cybersecurity measures from February 2021 to March 2024.
After the breach, the fire district identified serious security flaws, including unpatched servers and insecure password practices. Additionally, it was revealed that General Informatics reused compromised login credentials across multiple clients, exacerbating the breach risk.
