Ubuntu 26.04 LTS elevates Arm64 to first class with Livepatch

Canonical is set to enhance the Arm64 architecture in Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, elevating it to 'first-class' status alongside x86 systems. Key updates include a unified package infrastructure, enabling faster and more reliable downloads by merging Arm64 repositories with standard ones. The Livepatch service will now support Arm64, allowing kernel updates without rebooting, and improvements have been made to Secure Boot for Snapdragon laptops.

Additionally, the FEX emulator will support x86 games on Arm64, while Google's Widevine DRM integration will facilitate high-definition content streaming. These advancements position Arm64 as a viable option for cloud and desktop users, reflecting a significant shift in the Linux ecosystem.
