Robotic Surgery Giant Intuitive Discloses Cyberattack

INTUITIVE , the American robotic surgery giant, disclosed that it was the target of a cyberattack described as a targeted cybersecurity phishing incident, which led to unauthorized access to certain internal business applications. The company said, according to Intuitive’s incident notice, that the attack did not impact its operations or its ability to support customers.

Leveraging the accessed internal administrative network, the attackers gained access to customer business and contact information, employee information, and corporate data. Intuitive also noted that its robotic systems have their own security protocols and operate independently of the internal business network, and that hospital customer networks remain separate and were unaffected.

The firm said the incident is fully contained, data privacy regulators are being notified, and it did not provide a timeline, attribution, or figures on how many individuals were affected. According to SecurityWeek, the story is being updated if the company responds.
