Microsoft Teams Introduces Premium Feature to Prevent Screenshots and Screen Recording
Microsoft Teams has rolled out a new security feature in Teams Premium called “Prevent screen capture,” designed to block screenshots and recordings during sensitive meetings. It will be available worldwide through late November 2025, addressing concerns about data leaks in virtual collaborations across industries such as finance, healthcare and law.
The feature’s timeline was updated on 12 November 2025, shifting general availability from mid-October to early November to allow for additional testing and refinements, with targeted release beginning in mid-September 2025 for select users and broader deployment now underway, according to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap under ID 490561.
When enabled, it restricts visual access to meeting elements across platforms, with Windows showing a black rectangle over the meeting window and Android devices blocking screenshots and recordings entirely, while iOS, macOS, web browsers and non-Entra Enrolled devices may switch attendees to audio-only mode. Organisations can manage licensing and device enrolment via Entra ID and Intune, and the feature raises GDPR compliance considerations by limiting data export or access rights.
