Firefox for iOS Now Summarizes Pages with a Shake
Firefox for iOS is rolling out a page summarisation feature, initially available to English-speaking users in the United States with broader language and region support still to be announced, the article notes on 10 September 2025. The function can be triggered simply by shaking the device, though users may also tap the lightning icon at the right of the address bar to generate a summary.
The feature relies on Apple Intelligence and is supported only on iOS 26 and later; for iPhones lacking on-device AI, Firefox transmits the page to Mozilla’s AI servers in the cloud, with the summary returned to the user. At present, summarisation is limited to webpages under 5,000 words, with longer content potentially taking considerably more time and not yet supported for large-scale text.
This update is framed as part of Mozilla’s broader embrace of AI capabilities, with a related desktop feature introduced in May that provides a link preview by hovering over hyperlinks to invoke AI. According to The Mozilla Foundation, the shift signals ongoing experimentation with AI features across Firefox platforms.
