Microsoft Releases Fix for Windows 11 24H2 Bluetooth Audio Malfunction Affecting Headsets and Speakers
Microsoft has resolved a widespread Bluetooth audio problem that left Windows 11 version 24H2 users without functioning headsets, speakers, and built‑in laptop audio. The fix came as a targeted driver update released on 12 September 2025, addressing complaints that audio devices became completely unresponsive after upgrading to the OS. The root cause was identified as an Dirac Audio incompatibility involving the cridspapo.dll component, which caused a system‑wide audio failure when loaded during startup.
To mitigate the issue, Microsoft implemented a compatibility safeguard hold to prevent the 24H2 upgrade from being offered to affected devices, a measure tracked under safeguard ID 54283088 for Windows Update for Business. An updated driver then replaced the faulty cridspapo.dll, restoring normal audio operation across affected devices, and lifting the compatibility restrictions on 11 September 2025 with updates potentially appearing within 48 hours. Users can check for updates via Settings > Windows Update, and a restart can help trigger expedited delivery where possible.
