Its functions include deciphering diagnostic reports into accessible insights, managing medications and scheduling clinical consultations, and performing visual analysis, though the company remains unclear on whether this covers professional radiology images or casual dermatology photos. Amazon stresses that Health AI is a supplement to human clinicians and will defer to a qualified practitioner when professional judgement is required.
The firm asserts strict HIPAA compliance, with dialogues not automatically added to the formal medical record and PHI not monetised. The deployment sits within a broader healthcare mosaic that includes same-day prescription delivery and automated pharmacy services, with parallel developments such as Google’s AI health coach in Fitbit and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Health portal.
