Science at the Speed of AI: OpenAI Unveils Prism for LaTeX Research

OPENAI has announced Prism, a new LaTeX research tool described as the “Claude Code for the scientific community,” which links the GPT-5.2 Thinking model with the LaTeX typesetting system to ease manuscript formatting, citation management, and even curriculum design. The Prism foundation is built on the new Crixet infrastructure, replacing the legacy Chirp agent to translate natural language prompts into precise, compilable LaTeX code, such as generating TikZ diagrams on request.

According to OpenAI, Prism can autonomously curate scientific literature relevant to a user’s thesis and render a perfectly formatted bibliography, and it can assist in creating graduate‑level lesson plans or rigorous problem sets. Currently, Prism is available at no cost to all individual ChatGPT account holders, with OpenAI intending to extend access to its Business, Team, Enterprise, and Education tiers in the near future.

The Crixet brand will be retired as its services are absorbed into Prism, and the tool is presented as a means to catalyse the research lifecycle while emphasising user due diligence to guard against hallucinations.
