Tell the truth, or someone will tell it for you — Trumbull County, Ohio edition

According to SuspectFile, Trumbull County (Ohio) was hit by a severe cyberattack in the first days of November 2025, carried out by the ransomware group Anubis. Anubis has published approximately 350 GB of documents on its data leak site, claiming they were stolen from the county’s servers.

In a direct conversation with SuspectFile, an Anubis spokesperson confirmed access to county systems in the first days of November and said they deliberately waited for officials to announce that their systems had not been compromised before “destroying their reputation.” They also claimed to have remained inside the network the entire time, stating they watched the county conduct a security audit and collect artifacts.

If the county did not respond or negotiate, that stance was justified by government advice not to pay ransom, but the reports suggest disputes over whether data exfiltration occurred or was denied. DataBreaches notes that SuspectFile reported the county’s communications and access claims, and highlights questions about whether any third‑party vendor was involved and the current status of the county’s public-facing site.
