OH: West Chester Township investigates second cyberattack this month

West Chester Township is dealing with a second cyber-attack this month, with the incident occurring on Tuesday morning when cyber attackers the township calls a “malicious group” struck and targeted the email server. At approximately 6:45 a.m., the public information officer Brianna Wooten said the township was notified of a potential cyber-attack and data breach, and that a forensic investigation is under way.

The township is working with the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center to track down those responsible and to secure the information, she added. Those claiming to be the hackers sent a note to some West Chester employees asserting that they had stolen two terabytes of information, including the personal information of residents and employees. As of the publication, neither of the two attacks has appeared on any darkweb leak site. |
