False Alarm: Microsoft Fixes Bug Incorrectly Warning Windows 10 LTSC & ESU Users That Support Ended

According to Microsoft, the issue where Windows Update could incorrectly display that a version is no longer supported may appear on some systems. In October 2025, Microsoft officially ended security update support for Windows 10 version 22H2, with ESU continuing patches for those enrolled. The company’s update mechanism can detect when a system has reached end of support, triggering the warning on the Windows Update page.

However, the verification process was not fully implemented, causing some Windows 10 LTSC editions and ESU-registered PCs to show a false end-of-support message. Microsoft has deployed a cloud-based rollback fix to correct the affected policy remotely, and the problem will resolve automatically as long as the device stays connected to the internet; enterprise IT administrators may manually install KB5066791_251020_20401_KIR if necessary. The affected versions include Windows 10 version 22H2 enrolled in ESU, Windows 10 LTSC 2021, and Windows 10 IoT LTSC 2021.
