New iPhone Air Camera Flaw: What You Need to Know

According to CNN, Henry Casey noticed a peculiarity while photographing a concert: roughly one in ten images taken with the iPhone Air or iPhone 17 Pro showed small black patches and wavy white lines. The anomaly appears to be triggered by LED backgrounds and manifests only when shooting directly at LED screens. Casey later found that a significant number of photos were unusable, prompting him to report the issue to Apple, which confirmed the company was aware of the problem.

Apple says the flaw occurs only in very rare circumstances, typically when an exceptionally bright LED display shines directly into the camera. Although the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 series have not yet been officially released, early buyers may encounter the issue, with Apple’s corrective update not yet given a timeline for when it will arrive. The iPhone Air and iPhone 17 lineup opened for preorders with a release scheduled for 19 September 2025, and the review embargo has lifted, making analyses available online.
