Googlebook Laptop Pre Orders Open as Android and ChromeOS Merge

Google has announced that pre-orders for its new Googlebook laptop line will open on 21 September 2026. The company describes Googlebook as a laptop platform for the artificial-intelligence era, combining Android, ChromeOS and Gemini AI services. Google will not manufacture the devices itself: hardware will be produced by OEMs including Acer, ASUS, Dell, Lenovo and HP, which will also handle sales and after-sales support.

According to the article, Googlebook will use a new desktop operating system formed by merging Android and ChromeOS, rather than continuing with ChromeOS alone. The platform is intended to combine Google Play and Android applications with Chrome’s browser and desktop capabilities, alongside deeper Gemini integration. Developers are expected to adapt Android applications for the laptop experience.

The article does not provide final hardware specifications or pricing, but says Googlebook is positioned as a flagship range rather than an entry-level Chromebook line, so costs could be higher. Gemini services are also unavailable in some regions, meaning users in unsupported locations may not be able to use those features.
