Killingly schools disclose network incident exposing personal data
Killingly Public Schools reported that a data privacy incident occurred after a disruption to its computer network in October 2025. The district said it acted quickly to secure systems and took parts of its network offline, while core services were restored the same day. It engaged cybersecurity specialists to investigate the nature and scope of the event, and the inquiry determined that certain data was accessed on the network without authorisation.
A comprehensive data review followed to identify what personal information, if any, was contained in the affected files and to whom that information belonged; that review concluded on 23 September 2026.
The district notes it notified federal law enforcement, reset account passwords, and continues to use multi-factor authentication for its systems. It also stated that it is reviewing and strengthening security safeguards and policies to improve resilience. As to impact, Killingly Public Schools says there is no evidence to date of misuse of any personally identifiable information for fraud or identity theft. The notice directs affected individuals to the district’s website for additional information and resources. Nicholas Jajko and Annie Jaffee of Kennedys Law are listed as contacts in connection with the incident.
