COLDCARD , a popular Bitcoin hardware wallet, has experienced a significant security breach resulting in the theft of approximately $89 million worth of Bitcoin. This incident, initiated on July 30, involved automated attacks that exploited a firmware vulnerability dating back to 2021, which affected the wallet’s random-number generation process. Researchers tracked over 1,080 Bitcoins stolen from nearly 4,385 affected addresses.

Coinkite, the manufacturer, has since released a firmware update and advised users to avoid generating new wallet seeds until the fix is applied. Analysts suggest that further attacks may still be occurring.
