Months After Being Notified, a Software Vendor is Still Exposing Confidential and Sealed Court Records
According to DataBreaches[.]Net, a software vendor, Software Unlimited Corp of Tupelo, Mississippi, was found to be exposing confidential and sealed court records across multiple shares despite months of alerts. The chronology highlights that by July 16, 2025, researchers reported exposed court records exceeding 100 GB from a single state, with a second exposure involving more than 770 GB of files discovered by July 22, 2025.
Despite efforts by researchers, Mandiant, and even an FBI agent to prompt action, the shares remained unsecured into August, with DataBreaches recording a formal watchdog complaint against Software Unlimited Corp with the Federal Trade Commission on August 18, 2025. The article notes the exposed data included juvenile court filings and confidential case materials, some with dates in March 2025, and raises concerns about the ongoing risk to individuals whose records were not properly sealed.
By October 11, 2025, vendors and authorities claimed the issue had been fixed, yet the share for a second state remained exposed at the time of writing. The piece urges current and former clients to review access logs and security practices, and acknowledges the involvement of Google, FBI, and researchers in the effort.
