Google’s AI Search Goes Global: New AI Mode Supports Five Languages

On 9 September 2025, Google announced that its AI Mode search feature will now support five languages: Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Hindi and Brazilian Portuguese, extending its reach beyond English-speaking users. The service first entered public testing in March this year and was fully rolled out in the United States in May, later expanding to the UK and India; according to Google’s data, AI Mode has since reached more than 180 markets worldwide.

Hema Budaraju, Vice President of Product Management for Google Search, said that making AI search truly global requires more than translation, aiming for a nuanced understanding of local information. By integrating the Gemini 2.5 Pro model and multimodal reasoning capabilities, Google says the feature will deliver responses attuned to regional needs, including local news, FAQs and cultural context.

This expansion underscores Google’s push to deepen localisation and user relevance across diverse markets, even as questions about the open web and content ecosystems continue to surface in public forums and legal filings.
