Is Your iOS 26 Battery Draining? Here’s Why

With the release of iOS 26, Apple has warned that battery life may appear to dip temporarily as devices run more background and foreground processes such as data indexing, asset downloads, and app updates. The company notes that these effects are transient and should settle once the update process is complete, even if some new features use more power in certain cases.

Apple’s official documentation is quoted in the article, stating that immediately after a major update you might notice a temporary impact on battery life and thermal performance as the device completes setup in the background. The piece also stresses that any long-term impact on battery life should be minimal and will depend on individual usage and the apps involved. As iOS 26 becomes widely available, Apple also reminds users they can delay updating and remain on iOS 18.x if they prefer to upgrade later.

According to Apple’s official documentation, features may require additional resources from the device, and Apple continually works to optimise them in software updates to maintain battery life and a smooth user experience. 16 September 2025.
