Broadcom & CAMB.AI Developing AI Chip for Real-Time On-Device Dubbing

Broadcom has announced a strategic partnership with the AI startup CAMB[.]AI to jointly develop an entirely new AI chipset designed to perform real-time audio translation, dubbing, and audio description entirely on-device. The two companies say the chip will process all data locally, delivering ultra-low latency, enhanced content privacy, and reduced dependence on wireless bandwidth.

In an official demo video using Pixar’s Ratatouille, the system reportedly provided instant dialogue translation and generated spoken descriptions of on-screen actions in multiple languages, a feature with potential value for users with visual impairments. However, reports note the footage was highly curated and edited, so real-world performance and accuracy remain to be proven. CAMB[.]AI’s voice modelling technology has already been adopted by NASCAR, Comcast, and the Eurovision Song Contest.

The partners claim the chip will eventually support on-device translation in more than 150 languages, with commercial rollout still in the testing phase and not yet reaching consumer products.
