1.5 billion packets per second DDoS attack detected with FastNetMon
According to CyberNewsWire, a record-scale distributed denial-of-service attack was detected by FastNetMon targeting the website of a leading DDoS scrubbing vendor in Western Europe. The attack reached 1.5 billion packets per second (1.5 Gpps), marking one of the largest packet-rate floods publicly disclosed, and was primarily a UDP flood launched from compromised customer-premises equipment, including IoT devices and routers, across more than 11,000 unique networks worldwide.
The disclosure follows Cloudflare reporting mitigation of an 11.5 Tbps DDoS attack, illustrating growing volumes in both packet rate and bandwidth. Pavel Odintsov, Founder of FastNetMon, described the event as part of a dangerous trend and warned that hijacked tens of thousands of CPE devices enable coordinated floods of this magnitude, increasing risks for network operators.
FastNetMon’s Advanced platform is designed to handle attacks of this size, with real-time analytics and highly optimised C++ algorithms enabling automatic detection within seconds to help protect the target service. London, United Kingdom, 11 September 2025.
