Windows 11 Is Getting a Native Video Wallpaper Feature
Windows 11 is moving towards native video wallpapers, with Microsoft reportedly preparing the feature for official release after years of reliance on third‑party tools. The rollout is expected in upcoming Windows 11 updates for versions 24H2 and 25H2, with current testing indicating a Build 26200 or later is required and being evaluated in the Windows Insider Preview programme.
Enabling a video background will be straightforward: users can go to Settings → Personalization → Background and select a video file, though the option is not yet visible in stable settings. The feature supports a wide range of formats including .mp4, .m4v, .mov, .wmv, .avi, .mkv and .webm, making it compatible with many common videos.
On laptops, looping a video as a desktop background may increase power consumption, and energy-related warnings are expected to be added once the feature is officially launched, such as pausing playback when Battery Saver mode is enabled, according to Windowslatest.
