CISA steps in to help Nevada state government recover from cyberattack

Federal officials are working with Nevada’s state government to help it recover from a cyberattack discovered on Sunday, with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) liaising with the FBI and other agencies to help the state get back online safely while investigating origins and rebuilding systems. According to The Record, in a statement on Wednesday evening, acting CISA Director Madhu Gottumukkala described the efforts as aiming to restore necessary critical services.

Nevada asked CISA to send its “threat hunting” teams to assist in mitigating ongoing threats and identifying the full scope of the incident. The agency said it also helped Nevada access incident response grants offered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The collaboration underscores a federal response to support state resilience and incident management during cyber disruptions.
