Ontario tip lines pause service after Navigate360 data breach
Several Ontario Crime Stoppers organisations have suspended their tip-reporting programmes following the Navigate360 data breach, after Toronto Crime Stoppers paused its service. DataBreaches[.]net says the organisations lack the detailed information needed to tell tipsters whether their submissions were exposed. The breach affects data from Navigate360 systems used by school students, teachers, community members and members of the US armed forces.
The outlet says a dataset obtained by a hacktivist contained 8.3 million tips; its analysis suggests the information may undermine promises that tips would remain anonymous. It also reports that Navigate360’s subsidiary P3 told clients it could track IP addresses on request.
Nevada’s education and public safety departments said Navigate360 notified them in spring 2026 that the SafeVoice Nevada system might have been affected by an incident involving unauthorised access between November 2025 and March 2026. On 22 October, the departments said a forensic investigation had found that about 10 per cent of SafeVoice tips containing personally identifiable information was compromised. They said they could not reliably identify and contact everyone affected, and were issuing public notice. Nevada officials said they were working with education leaders in other states to seek answers and stronger protections.
Navigate360’s public notice, issued on 23 October, says an unauthorised third party obtained copies of data between 21 November 2025 and 5 March 2026. Potentially affected information may include names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, telephone numbers and email addresses; Navigate360 said it had no evidence of misuse for fraud or identity theft.
DataBreaches[.]net criticised the company’s limited disclosure and noted that its notice to Rhode Island sought confidential treatment of the submission. The outlet says Navigate360 has not provided clients with detailed information to notify potentially affected tipsters.
