Harrods alerts customers to new data breach linked to third-party provider
Harrods has warned that a data breach affected its online systems after one of its third-party provider systems was compromised, exposing names and contact details of some e-commerce customers. The company said the impacted data is limited to basic personal identifiers and does not include account passwords or payment details, and that the third party has stated the incident is isolated and has been contained.
Harrods has informed affected customers and is working with cybersecurity experts to secure its systems and protect data going forward, while notifying all relevant authorities. The breach is described as not linked to the May cyber attack on Harrods, and the firm reported that security measures were reinforced in response to prior events. According to The Guardian, Harrods also noted that no financial data was compromised.
In parallel, UK authorities and the security community continue to monitor related incidents following arrests linked to fixes surrounding other retailers.
