Now It Can Listen: Google Gemini Adds Support for Audio File Uploads

Google Gemini has added audio file upload support, allowing users to upload audio through the web, iOS, and Android and have it transcribed or summarised. The feature, described by the company’s Vice President of Labs and head of the Gemini AI team as a "#1 request," expands Gemini’s earlier capabilities with images, PDFs and videos. Supported formats include MP3, WAV, and most other common audio types.

Free users can upload up to 10 audio clips per session with a combined maximum length of 10 minutes, while longer recordings can be broken into smaller segments. Paid subscribers—such as those on Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra plans—can upload up to three hours (180 minutes) of audio. The update highlights Gemini’s ability to generate key highlights from meetings in addition to transcription.
