DEVELOPER creates app to detect nearby smart glasses, by Pieter Arntz, published on 25 February 2026, notes that an independent developer, prompted by concerns over abuse of smart glasses, built Nearby Glasses to warn when wearable cameras are nearby.

The Android hobbyist app continuously scans for Bluetooth Low Energy advertising frames to recognise devices from manufacturers linked to smart glasses, specifically Meta, Luxottica (Meta Ray-Bans), and Snap, and sends a notification such as “Smart Glasses are probably nearby” when a match is detected. Users can install it from Google Play or GitHub, enable foreground scanning, start the scan, and decide how to respond to alerts.

The article highlights that stalkers and harassers misuse smart glasses, and the developer frames the project as a tiny countermeasure against surveillance rather than a solution, with observers noting it is imperfect and can misfire, according to 404 Media.
