Samsung and OpenAI Announce Strategic Alliance to Build Next-Generation Global AI Infrastructure

Samsung and OpenAI have announced a strategic partnership to jointly advance the development of global AI infrastructure, as reported on 2 October 2025. According to Samsung, OpenAI’s demand for memory is rising at an unprecedented pace, with monthly requirements projected to reach as high as 900,000 DRAM wafers in the near future, which Samsung intends to meet through its high-performance, energy-efficient DRAM product line.

Beyond memory supply, Samsung emphasises its capabilities in advanced packaging and heterogeneous integration technologies to deliver tailored solutions for OpenAI’s system requirements, positioning Samsung as a comprehensive semiconductor partner. Subsidiary Samsung SDS will participate by offering design, deployment, and management support in data centres and will serve as OpenAI’s official distributor in South Korea for enterprise applications such as ChatGPT Enterprise.

Samsung SDS will also cooperate on the Stargate AI data centre project, providing foundational infrastructure for growing global AI computing demands. The alliance further envisages cross-division innovations, including offshore floating data centres and expanded internal adoption of ChatGPT to drive AI-enabled workflows.
