Canadian Airline WestJet Says Hackers Stole Customer Data
WestJet has disclosed that personal information provided by travellers for reservations or travel was stolen in a June 2025 cyberattack, with the breach detailed as having unauthorised access to several internal systems. The company said names, contact information, government-issued IDs, and other customer data were taken, but no credit or debit card details or passwords were obtained.
WestJet noted that the incident was disclosed on 13 June 2025 and that operations were not affected, with access to its application and website restored roughly two days after the attack. In July, the airline said the incident had been fully contained and that additional security measures were implemented, and this week it confirmed the data exposure. The firm stated it has begun notifying potentially affected individuals and is offering identity theft protection services.
It also urged customers to beware of suspicious emails, text messages, or calls from people impersonating the airline who may seek payment card information.
