Port of Los Angeles Blocks 120 Million Cyberattacks in August

The Port of Los Angeles reportedly blocked more than 120 million cyberattacks during August, according to Bloomberg News as reported by PYMNTS. The port is the busiest container hub for global trade, and its executive director, Gene Seroka, said its cybersecurity team, working with private-sector companies, had identified intrusion attempts, network exploitation, credential harvesting and malware attacks.

The report linked the activity to continuing operational risks for maritime infrastructure, including amid changing tariff policies. Seroka’s comments followed announcements that US government agencies were monitoring cyber threats against nearly 20 ships worldwide. Bloomberg said attacks against the maritime sector have increased in recent years as vessels have become more dependent on digital systems for operations such as navigation and communications.
