Microsoft Will Bundle Security Copilot with M365 Enterprise Licenses
At the recent Microsoft Ignite conference in San Francisco, Microsoft unveiled plans to automatically offer Security Copilot for enterprise customers, bundling it with the M365 E5 licenses and starting immediately for organisations already on that plan, with a staged rollout to others over the coming months.
According to Microsoft’s documentation, each M365 E5 customer will be allotted 400 Security Compute Units per month for every 1,000 paid user licenses, up to a maximum of 10,000 SCUs per month, with the quantity scaling to reflect licence numbers (for example, a 400-user organisation would receive 160 SCUs per month).
The move aims to expand adoption of Security Copilot, which Microsoft launched last year, and comes as 12 new agents will be built into Defender, Entra, Intune and Purview, alongside more than 30 third-party providers adding their own agents. Allie Mellen of Forrester described the announcement as the conference’s most significant security news, while Scott Woodgate, Microsoft’s general manager of threat protection, emphasised that customers with M365 E5 will be able to use any of those agents.
Agent 365 was also introduced as a central registry for enterprise agents, with Frontier preview access planned for early adopters pursuing Copilot and AI agent implementations.
