Future of Logistics: Amazon Unveils Blue Jay Robot and Eluna AI Assistant

Amazon has unveiled two innovations for its operations network: the Blue Jay multi-arm robotic collaboration system and Project Eluna, an agent-based AI model, both aimed at reducing repetitive tasks, improving safety, boosting productivity, and accelerating delivery times.

“Our latest innovations are great examples of how we’re using AI and robotics to create an even better experience for our employees and customers,” said Tye Brady, chief technologist for Amazon Robotics, emphasising that the goal is to make technology the most practical and powerful tool for safer, smarter work.

The Blue Jay system is described as an “extra set of hands” for warehouse staff, capable of coordinating multiple robotic arms to perform pick, stow, and consolidate tasks in a single streamlined workspace, and it is already executing around 75% of all inventory types during production testing at an Amazon facility in South Carolina.

Project Eluna is designed to ease the cognitive load on operations managers by analysing data to predict bottlenecks and provide data-driven recommendations, with initial testing planned this holiday season at a Tennessee logistics centre focusing on sortation optimisation. Both initiatives form part of Amazon’s broader AI and automation ecosystem, including Vulcan and DeepFleet, and aim to shift staff from reactive firefighting to proactive planning.
