CISOs Should Be Asking These Quantum Questions Today

CISOs are urged to start asking practical, non-technical questions about visibility, validation and compliance as quantum moves from lab experiments into production workflows. The piece notes that quantum-ready software is already deployed in mission-critical environments, with Air Force Research Laboratory, aerospace manufacturers and defence partners running quantum-inspired algorithms on classical infrastructure today, delivering about 10 times the performance in some cases.

It warns that security teams must understand what is actually running in their environment, since quantum software often integrates with existing workflows and can operate on CPUs and GPUs today while being designed for future quantum processors.

According to Deloitte’s 2025 Tech Trends, “The new math: Solving cryptography in an age of quantum,” cryptographically relevant quantum computers could threaten current encryption standards as early as the 2030s, underscoring a need to inventory cryptographic algorithms and plan upgrades. The article also highlights that quantum software doesn’t fit neatly into existing cybersecurity frameworks, so questions about data storage, encryption and access controls remain just part of the picture. It concludes that security teams should start building quantum-aware playbooks now, rather than retrofitting them later.
